of 17th- and 18th-century works and for their virtuoso and imaginative historical
performance practice. Founded by Reinhard Goebel and fellow students from the Cologne
Conservatory, Musica Antiqua Köln initially devoted itself to the performance of Baroque
chamber and sacred music. Musica Antiqua Köln's international breakthrough came in 1979,
when the ensemble made its début at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall during the annual
English Bach Festival and gave five concerts at the Holland Festival. On the occasion of
their 10th anniversary, Reinhard Goebel augmented the ensemble's chamber-group nucleus
with additional string and wind players to allow the performance of orchestral music as
well - both in the concert hall and in the recording studio. Since 1981, Musica Antiqua Köln and Reinhard Goebel made regular tours of the
USA, visiting Australia and South America several times and touring China in "Bach
Year", 1985. Musica Antiqua Köln received the Buxtehude Prize from the City of
Lübeck and has also received awards from Siemens and the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Musica ad Rhenum
- Artistic director : Jed Wentz (traverso)
- Year ensemble formed : 1992 -- by members of
Music Antiqua Köln,
Concerto Köln, and
Concerto
Armonico.
- Description :
- The ensemble's name (translation: "Music on the Rhine.") reflects the
determination of its members to combine the latest musicological research and playing
styles associated with the Rhenish cities Basel and Cologne with their own vision of
authentic Baroque performance practice. The ensemble follows the advice of the English
poet Dryden, who, in his Essay on Dramatic Poesy (1684), wrote that : "art should
follow nature, not slavishly on foot, but rather, with unbridled imagination and fantasy,
mounted on the back of winged Pegasus."
- Beside the standard baroque repertoire, Musica ad Rhenum performs less well-known
repertoire, such as works by the Dutch composers Petersen, Groneman, and Graaf.

- Year ensemble formed : 1982 -- by Minkowski
- Description : Originally based in Paris, in 1996 the group relocated to Grenoble,
France, after merging with the Orchestre de Chambre de Grenoble. The new ensemble was
given three objectives, namely to fulfill its mission as a public service, maintain a
permanent formation in Grenoble and develop its national and international vocation. As a
result, the orchestra now plays with traditional instruments when interpreting the works
of composers such as Monteverdi, Bach, Lully, Handel, Rameau or Gluck, and with modern
ones for music from the 19th and 20th century. The ensemble signed an exclusive recording
contract with Archiv Produktion in 1994.

Los Músicos de Su Alteza
- Ensemble name : From 1669 to 1677, a music loving Governor of Aragon (Spain), Don
Juan de Austria, supported in Zaragoza a prestigious chamber ensemble formed by musicians
from very varied origins. The so-called "musicians of His Highness" made

performance techniques and the use of period instruments.
