Diabolus in Musica
- Director : none
- Year ensemble formed : 1987; went full-time professional in 1992.
- Description : A professional early music duo, mainly instrumental but with
occasional vocals. They specialise in English popular music from the Elizabethan period,
performed in costume on a large collection of authentic instruments. The duo aims to
appeal to the modern general public but without compromising their commitment to
historical performance practice. The duo plays from memory and rely heavily on the
improvisation of divisions, based on the standard Italian treatises, but modified by study
of English sources. Each performance is unique. "Diabolus in Musica" are true
minstrels, having the versatility to provide music, to inform, and to entertain, wherever
they are required - recitals in concert halls, feasts in historic houses, re-enactments in
fields, workshops in schools. Although they specialise in Elizabethan music, they have
other repertoires, and costumes, covering periods from late medieval to the English Civil
War.

request information via e-mail.

Il Dolcimelo
- Director : none
- Year ensemble formed : 1994 -- by
Katja Beisch and Doris Runge
- Description : A baroque ensemble. The only legacy of Aurelio Virgiliano, an
Italian musician who lived during the 16th century, is a fine collection of virtuoso
pieces of music also including instructions for the art of playing properly. The
collection was entitled Il Dolcimelo. This title is poetic but also ambiguous,
because it can signify either a particularly sweet apple tree or simply a
sweet melody.

Duo Sospiri Ardenti
- Director : none
- Year ensemble formed : ?
- Description : The ensemble specializes in the music of the late renaissance and
early baroque. The name "Sospiri Ardenti" (passionate sighs) is taken from a
song title out of Giullio Caccini's 1602 treatise, Le Nuove Musiche. The
humanistic renaissance search for the importance of the text and the early baroque passion
for declaiming this text in an intelligible way were inspiring factors for the forming of
the ensemble.
