Baker Collection
- Director : none
- Year ensemble formed : 1993
- Description : A quintet of 17th Century violins. "The authoritative and
historic voice of seventeenth century English music-making. No other ensemble can present
English music of the seventeenth century played on the earliest known matched set of
seventeenth century English instruments; and in a distinctive style based on research that
has hitherto largely been ignored. There are five Baker instruments in the collection,
comprising the earliest extant English 4-string bass violin (1672), two violins and a
viola (1683), and an unusual small 5-string bass violin (1682). Each instrument has been
restored as closely as possible to its original seventeenth century condition."

Bath Baroque
- Conductor/Leader : Julia Bishop
- Year ensemble formed : 1995
- Description :
- The orchestra reserves approx. 40% of its places for talented local students. Thereby,
these students are given the opportunity to become acquainted with the repertoire and
performance practice of the Baroque period and to work alongside professionals who
constitute the rest of the orchestra.
- Bath Baroque performs four major concerts each year in the Assembly Rooms, the Guildhall
and the Abbey in Bath. It also has a busy schedule of chamber concerts in venues ranging
from Wells Cathedral and the drawing rooms of stately homes to barns, churches and
marquees. The occasions may be charity fund-raisers, music festivals, weddings,
birthdays... Bath Baroque begins a series of educational concerts in schools, which will
include spoken introductions to the differences between Baroque instruments and their
modern counterparts.
