It was, it was - transfered to cd - RCA RD 70794 (2) and also RCA GD 87724.
Now, wonderful as that recording is/was the new recording by La Petite Bande DHM 05472 77308 2 is to my taste even better. Some of you may not like the fact that there is a horn instead of a trumpet in No. 2 but that was Sigiswald Kuijken's decision and he gives his reasons in the notes. In fact all of the quick movements are quicker than the old Leonhardt - for it was Leonhardt who was the moving force behind the earlier one - recording and all of the slower movements are slower. It is just the way that *I* always wanted it to sound. There is nothing harsh about the sound at all. Critics have been mixed - some angry about the horn instead of trumpet calling the director all sorts of names in print! Someone objected to the practice of a violinist playing the viola in no. 6 - a mean criticism. And like the earlier Leonhardt recording there are friends playing along together. There are no gimmicks in this recording. Nothing is vulgar. It is what it is.
